Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime in North America. The Canadian Privacy Commissioner has stated that for criminals, Identity Theft is now more lucrative than the drug trade. Learn how to get the experts on your side, how to reduce your risk, what to do if your identity is stolen and how to get it restored. Examples of Identity Theft are provided so participants are better able to reduce their risk by recognizing potential threats. Since personal information, and the security of it, may be different for the individual than it is for a business or organization, the session content can be adapted to best suit the audience.

This session is updated regularly to keep pace with new developments in Identity Theft; for example, the new technology associated with Radio Frequency Identification. RFID is now common on credit cards and increasingly on passports.

Restoring Data from Backup

In this tutorial, you will learn how to connect to your Windows Server and restore data from backup.

Connect using Remote Desktop

This picture is from the Mac version but the Windows version is essentially the same. You can access it and start it differently on Windows and Mac platform. You may even already have a shortcut Icon on your desktop.
In the dialog box, enter the address or the name of the server.

Certificate Authentication

Depending on the settings on your server, you may have to ignore this warning and connect.

Logging in on the Remote Server

Depending on whether the server administrator was logged off or the server was locked, you will need to log in with administrator credentials to restore your data. Once you have logged on, you should have the Windows SBS Console loaded.
1. The SBS console title bar
2. The SBS Concole minimize and windows buttons
3. The Backup Utility. Click on the Backup Icon.

Opening the SBS Console

If the Windows SBS Console was closed when you logged in, you can easily start it from the Start Menu.
1. Click on Start
2. Select and Click on Windows SBS Console.
If the COnsole is not on the list, go to All Programs, then you will see it listed there.

Accessing the Backup options

Click on Go to Backup, this will open the Backup Task Windows

Restore Options

Click on the Restore server data from backup icon.
The server will take a minute or so to update the backup window on the left.

Windows Server Backup

1. Messages from the software letting you know if the scheduled operations where successful or not
2. The Status of the server backup utility. IF you see any warnings or errors, please let your network administrator know as soon as you can.
3. The scheduled backup and the target drives. Useful information for the administrator.
4. The Recover/Restore button. Click on that one to start the Recovery WIzard

Recovery Wizard

1. Unless otherwise instructed, you will want to recover from this server.
2. Click on Next.

Selecting the Backup Date

The Recovery Wizard provides you with a lot of information.
1. The Oldest and Newest available backup that you can restore data from.
2. A calendar from which you can select a date in the past where the file or folder you need was OK.
3. As you select the date, you may be able to select different times -if multiple backups where done on that day,
4. Once you have selected the date & time, click on Next

Recovery Type

You have the option to restore Files and Folders, Applications or entire Volume (drive). Typically, you would only restore Files and/or Folders.
Click on Next after your selection is made

Selecting Items/Data for recovery

The Server name should appear here, click on the + at the beginning of the line to expand the list of folders.

Selecting a specific folder

Scroll and click on the + to expand folders until you find the file or folder you want to recover. Files will be listed on the right-side column.

Selecting the file

Click on the file, Ctrl-Click to select multiple files. Or just click on the folder on the left column to select the folder itself.

Recovery Destination

1. Typically, you will want to recover the file or folder to it’s original location. This will be easier for most software to find the files and continue your work where you left it prior to the file being damaged or inadvertantly deleted.
2. If no changes were done to the file or folder after you realized the file was missing, then you can "overwrite" the existing files. Otherwise, create copies (default option)
3. Unless you could no longer access the files because of access changes, leave this to "restore security settings"
4. Click Next to continue.

Final confirmation

The files and/or folders you selected for recovery will be listed here. If that is correct, click on Recover to proceed.

Recovery Completed

Once again, you can verify what was restored.
Click on close.

Installing a new WordPress theme
